This group is a modified version of the Promotion Committee. The Promotion Committee was traditionally planning, staffing, and operating large events. These bulk of these responsibilities have been taken on by the DSC’s Event Coordinator with the assistance of the DSC Executive Director. In this new framework, the Promotion Committee assists with improving the quality on the programming and events and also can focus on shining a spotlight and bringing awareness about the DSC to the larger community.
The DSC’s workforce is mostly composed of volunteers. The DSC plans on using this unique feature to drive its branding and showcase the organization as a diverse and inclusive team of people with various aspirations and skills, all working together towards improving life in downtown Sykesville.
In addition, the DSC will increase its advocacy effort by training its volunteers and Board members to share the mission of the DSC.

– Coordination and hosting 3 yearly fundraisers and 6 community events including a 6-month Farmers Market.
– Assistance with merchants sponsored event and creation of shopping events.
– Creation of a Licensing agreement.

– Creation of a quarterly newsletter.
– Completion of the Sykesville Secret Santa project.
– Coordination of a storefront decoration contest, in partnership with the Town of Sykesville.
– Organization and operations of the Sykesville Motorcycle Poker Run.
– Organization and operations of the Sykesville Pup Walk.
– Collaboration with the Carroll County Center for Breast Health to create the Sykesville Pink Fling.
– Organization and operations of the Star Scavenger hunt.
– Creation of the Disco-rona Dance off.
– Award of the Coolest Small Town in America in 2016.
- Award of Best Main Street in America in 2020.
- Semifinalist of the Great American Main Street Award in 2023.
– Best Main Street award, T-shirts’ design and sale.
