Volunteer on a Committee

The Downtown Sykesville Connection (DSC) consists of five teams of volunteers which meet once a month. All of our teams are OPEN for volunteers. Make a difference, and get involved!

  • The Design Committee: the mission of the DSC Design committee is to shape the physical image and plan long-term physical improvements of the downtown Sykesville community while honoring and preserving its historic charm.
  • The JEDI Committee: the mission of the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Committee is to promote intercultural understanding and acceptance among DSC Staff, volunteers, and community members by educating, empowering, and creating self-awareness in the context of a global society. DSC will foster an environment of inclusion and equality with fairness, appreciation for individual differences, and respect for all
  • The Promotion Committee: the mission of the DSC Promotion Committee is to produce events and promotional materials to shine a spotlight and bring awareness about the DSC to the larger community and raise funds for the Downtown Sykesville Connection’s activities.
  • The Economic Development Committee: the mission of the Economic Restructuring Committee is to promote a harmonious and thriving downtown Sykesville business community through initiatives, programs, and long-term planning that encourages a strong local economy.

Volunteer at an Event

Wine/Beer Pourers – Must be 21 or older and capable of opening a wine and/or beer bottle. Typically 2 hour shifts. Events include: Wine Walks, Beer Crawls, Holiday Open House, Taste of First St, and Picnic in the Park. 

Street Marshals – Volunteers required at every intersection of street closure. Must stay at their locations to ensure the streets remain closed and that cars do not try to cross the intersections. Events include: 3rd of July Torchlight Parade, Halloween Costume Contest & Stroll, and Christmas Parade.

Booth Assistance – Set-up and take- down of booth, greeting visitors and customers, handling booth sales, and distribution of events flyers. Events include: Farmers Market, 4th of July Picnic in the Park, and Holiday Market.

Event Check-in – Greeting and checking-in attendees. Ticket sales and collecting tickets. Events include: Wine Walks, Beer Crawls, and Taste of First St.
