The Downtown Sykesville Connection exists to preserve, promote, and enhance the character, history, and vibrancy of Downtown Sykesville for all to enjoy.
It builds its capacity through the operations of five committees implementing the Main Street approach: promotion, design, green, economic development, and JEDI (Justice.Equity.Diversity.Inclusion).

History

Founded in 2011

During its 11-plus years of operation, the Downtown Sykesville Connection (DSC) has accomplished much for the residents of Sykesville, its visitors, and the town businesses. Included among these accomplishments are: the creation of the community garden, the development of the South Branch skate park, the restoration of the Main Street sign, the bike rack installation, the design, and coordination of a yearly calendar of community events, the Main Street speaker system, the Snallygaster mini-mural, kid mural, plush animal and storybook project, the Little Sykes Railway beautification, the Sykesville postcards, and “urban transformation” mural projects throughout the town adding creativity to everyday structures. Additionally, the DSC administers state grants like the Downtown Lighting, Facade Improvement Program, grants funding programs supporting the Main Street businesses or DSC operations, or County and corporate grants to support Shop Small efforts.

The DSC is thrilled to continue its journey as a Main Street Program and a community service non-profit striving to foster a vibrant downtown through economic development, promotion, design, and green initiatives.

The DSC will keep showcasing our small town through a rich calendar of events crafted to cater to residents of all ages and visitors seeking unique experiences and new trends.

The DSC will remain focused on beautifying our town, preserving its history, and fostering an environment of inclusion and equality with fairness, appreciation for individual differences, and respect for all.
